Weegee was born Usher Fellig, in Austria in 1899, and came to New York aged 10 years, where his name was changed to Arthur Fellig. At eighteen he left home and took to the streets for his livelihood. Weegee photographed for the most part disaster and horror, the undercurrent of big-city life.
