16 February 2016 - 17 April 2016, Master Bedroom and Little Gallery

James Ross: Constructing Paintings 1982-2003 is an exhibition spanning a 30 year period of one of New Zealand’s most important contemporary painters. Drawing from the Wallace Arts Trust Collection and the artist’s own, Constructing Paintings 1982-2003 illustrates how Ross has, throughout his career, consistantly investigated the relationship between painting and sculpture; pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a painting.

James Ross was born in Gillingham, England in 1948. He graduated from Auckland University Elam School of Fine Arts in 1979. Since graduating Ross has participated in numerous group and solo shows both in New Zealand and overseas. He is extensively represented in New Zealand’s public collections: Te Papa, Auckland Art Gallery, Christchurch Art Gallery, Dunedin Public Art Gallery.
